5 tips on how to build and use your network to overcome the fear of failure

Networking is an excellent tool to support you when you are responsible for the growth of your own business.

Often we find our YTM Business Connect members have previously been an employee, in professional services, but decide to take on the role of business owner or consultant, for more flexibility and challenge. However, what they find is that they can experience an overwhelming fear of failure and realise there is so much to learn and implement.

Before starting a small business, perhaps work had just appeared on the desk based on the brand and profile of your employer. Now responsible for driving your entire operation and making informed decisions, solopreneurs find that technical knowledge is simply not enough.

5 tips on how to build and use your network to overcome the fear of failure:

1.Connect with other entrepreneurs

Surrounding yourself with people who understand what you’re going through can help you feel more confident in your business and give you insights and advice you wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. Seek out networking events or groups of entrepreneurs in your industry and join them. You can also use social media to connect with people who have similar interests.

2.Find a mentor or coach

Having someone who has been in your shoes before and can offer advice can be a massive boost to your confidence. A mentor or coach can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and provide guidance on how to overcome challenges. You can also use their experience to gain valuable insights into the industry and avoid common pitfalls.

3. Be open to feedback

Getting feedback from others, especially those with more experience, can be uncomfortable. But it can also be incredibly valuable. Feedback can help you identify areas for improvement and show you where you’re excelling. Use the feedback to refine your business strategy and make necessary changes.

4.Collaborate with others

Collaborating with other entrepreneurs can help you learn new skills and expand your network. It can also give you access to new resources and markets. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other entrepreneurs to explore potential partnerships or joint ventures.

5. Focus on building relationships

Networking is about building relationships, not just getting something out of someone. Focus on creating meaningful connections with people in your network, whether it’s by sharing your knowledge, offering your services, or simply being a good listener. Building these relationships can help you overcome the fear of failure by giving you a support system of people who believe in you and your business.

So in conclusion, we understand that starting a business is a challenging and often overwhelming experience. And even if you have been in business for decades, the world is changing at a great pace and its important for you to keep up with trends as too often “we do not know , what we do not know”.

When you establish the right mindset, are curious, and willing to contribute you will find that the support of your network, will enable you to overcome the fear of failure and achieve success. Remember that fear is a normal part of the process, but it doesn’t have to hold you back. Focus on building your network and use it to gain insights, advice, and support.
