What does it mean to create a positive ripple effect?
When you recognise the importance of connection, contribution, and community you have the power to create change and make life better for yourself and others.
Our recent Virtual BYO “WHY” dinner saw 5 speakers present how they hope to influence and change behaviour . Their presentations were diverse. The aim of this event end is to create awareness and prompt thinking and discussion. By making the difference to just one person, the flow on effect can start a ripple, and change and influence the outcomes for many. Here is a video of the 5 outstanding presentations and announcement of the winners.
The YTM Ripple $10,000 grant programme
At the YTM Dinner we were also proud to unveil the launch of something very close to our hearts and our heads - The YTM Ripple grant programme.
What we have recognised from our journey since starting YTM events in 2013, is that we have very much been a participant in collaborating with others and affecting the character, behaviour and development of change within, or influenced some people and some things.
The essence of that change is the act of creating something better and something different . You may be aware, or have attended our events and heard live examples of that through our speakers, across the years and again at the 2021 WHY Dinner.
More than a networking event
As a business community comprised of members, friends, and partners, YTM has been instrumental in connecting about 12,000 like minded business owner through conversations within more than 350 events. There's been learning, sharing and collaborating , not just card handouts.
Arrange of speakers with interactive sessions
We have brought 275 business insights from a range of speakers with interactive sessions to those events and we estimate that we've created nearly $3 million worth of business between those participants who have attended YTM events over those nine years.
It is time to take another step forward. We want to change it up. We have in recent years or maybe even right from the start by tackling , what is also very close to our hearts, inequality and do this through partnerships.
Over the years we have supported a number of organisations in a variety of ways and possibly you have heard of some of these before and connected with their leaders and teams:
· Community banking through the Bendigo Bank programme
· SBMS which is the small business mentoring service volunteer programme
· Roweville Community Kitchen
· and quite recently - Just Peoples.org
5% of all annual memberships to YTM going to that pool
The YTM Ripple grant funding pool will be initially $10,000 that will be in part funded by 5% of all annual memberships to YTM going to that pool and topped up the Leigh and Kerryn Powell. The grant programme is open to not for profits and for-profit businesses and organisations and those that we think drive positive influence and change with the philosophy, “Not what’s in it or me”, but most importantly “How can I make a difference?”
Mother Teresa once said “ I cannot change the world but I can cast a stone and create many ripples”. That’s what we at YTM want to create that ripple from tonight .
We hope you'll be able to participate with us in the grant programme over the 2021-22 year with that $10,000 initial kicking us off.
