Here's what people are saying about building your team

You need more than one pair of hands to manage everything in your business.

You need more than one pair of hands to manage everything in your business.

Whether you are a solopreneur or have a larger business, there comes a time when you need more than one pair of hands to manage everything in your business to improve your outcomes and provide the best customer experience. Teams in this context can be internal teams with specific roles, or small business teams that form to serve, consult, support and collaborate with each other.

In exploring this, I recently had conversations with two of our YTM Members about the key elements of, and the technology that can be applied to building and managing a team.

Building successful teams

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Warren Howard has been a YTM Member for over six years. He is the Director of Howardco Business and HR Solutions, and a Licensed Member of the National HR Coach Network. Warren is an experienced executive and consultant specializing in building successful teams. His career has spanned over 30 years in senior roles in oil distribution and marketing, consulting and insurance industries.

Warren aligns business strategy with the management of people and, as an experienced change agent, loves nothing better than working with his clients to achieve consistent and outstanding results. His passion is helping great teams grow, and developing leaders to run successful, profitable businesses.

Essential key elements

I asked Warren what he believes are the key elements essential in building a team which can be reframed for all businesses.

“Building and developing a team can be tough. All the key elements of high performance need to be aligned where:

  1. Everyone in the team understands the team’s goals and targets, and what they are collectively working towards.

  2. Everyone in the team understands their individual role, goals and targets, and knows what is expected of them.

  3. Team members are clear regarding how to work together and how to accomplish tasks as a team.

  4. Team members have a solid and deep trust in each other. They communicate openly, freely and respectfully share ideas and feedback”.

Technology to bridge the communication gaps

The process of developing know, like and trust is critical to any outcome, particularly in business.  You want to work with or entrust your project or business to those you feel comfortable with and recognise that there is technology available to help bridge the communication gaps.

Darren Lutchner, owner of 365 Assist (A Microsoft Partner) is another YTM Member who has experience in working with teams. His business, 365 Assist, helps small and medium sized organisations and non-profits improve their productivity by providing implementation, training and support services using Microsoft 365.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Through conversations I have had over the past year with Darren, I have learnt that he is a business software consultant who solves his customers’ business problems by implementing and training in Microsoft 365 and other proven software solutions.  He has explained to me the various opportunities offered by Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel or PowerPoint. He expanded on systems like Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint or OneDrive. What I learned from a YTM Lunch and Learn that Darren spoke at last year, is that the Microsoft 365 subscription I already have, offers so much more.

He recently showed me that:

“With Microsoft 365 Teams it is possible to go instantly from group chat to a video call with the touch of a button, and to securely connect, access, share, and co-author files in real time. It is possible to stay organized by keeping notes, documents and your calendar together.”

Darren is speaking at YTM Lunch and Learn on 16th June providing an overview to our YTM community to get them thinking about the possibilities available on how to manage your team or group…no matter the size.

Our evening online event on 29th June will also provide opportunity for our participants to have conversations that will enlighten and expand their thinking, as they share their knowledge and experience on how they have gone about building a team.

Some of the issues raised will include why and when you would consider adding to your team.

  • How to find the help you need

  • The “dos and don’ts” - important considerations

  • How to build mutually beneficial relationships

  • How to achieve a successful outcome

YTM‘s mission is to support business owners and professionals through opportunities to access support, connections, personal and professional development, and business.
