The Power of Relationship Development
Following on from the blog we shared last week - Conversations Count , we introduce you to and share how a business relationship has developed with the YTM forthcoming speaker, Alvin Cooney. Alvin is the Owner of Asentiv Australia, a consulting business delivering growth strategies for Australian businesses.
What Drives You
Our YTM founder Kerryn Powell is always interested in WHO the individual is and WHY they do what they do. When she meets someone at a business networking event or in life in general, she prefers not to ask the question “What do you do?” Too often the response is the same as any other person in the same industry or profession, for example… I am a tax accountant… or an insurance broker, for Kerryn the person and what drives them is a far better way to connect and be able to understand their business, motivation, challenges and skills.
Creating Conversations that Open Doors
Kerryn provides events, workshops, mentoring and conversations that focus on providing opportunities for business owners to tap into the growth resources of support, knowledge and quality connections by creating conversations that open doors and are the key to relationships. As an avid everyday learner, Kerryn always keen to learn more and her belief in the power of networking and relationship building encouraged her to enrol in a 5 day residential course run by Alvin Cooney to focus on intricacies behind referral partnerships.
Having been a BNI member and Chapter President in the past, Kerryn knew the value of business referrers, but was keen to understand the theory and steps how to build Referral Partnerships that result in mutual benefit for all parties.
Over the 5 day program, Kerryn was also able to connect with other business owners and has continued in building relationships with several of the other participants.
Why is it that some relationships develop
Building a relationship takes an investment of time and over the past 12 months, not only has Kerryn participated in the course, but been an active member in weekly accountability calls, which are part of the program. She would tell you that the best connections happen when we maintain connection, move forward and in particular connect from an emotional level.
From day one of the course, it was clear, Kerryn was not only going to learn about referral partnerships and how to build them, but also learn more about Alvin Cooney .

The Entrepreneurial Journey
Since leaving school almost 25 years ago, Alvin has been an entrepreneur. In fact even in school Alvin showed his Entrepreneurial talent when he used to sell his lunches to his schoolmates. He made his mum make extra sandwiches for him so he could build his tuck shop enterprise.
Alvin has been working in Relationship Marketing for the past 20 years. He started in the UK and is now based teaching Referral Marketing Programs in Australia. Over the years Alvin has helped hundreds of Entrepreneurs and Business Owners understand the power of what is Relational development and how it can bring business via Referrals.
Alvin has a beautiful wife called Connie and two wild boys called Finn and Liam. He lives in Perth and works Australia wide.
When Alvin is not working or spending time with his family, he can be found Swimming, Biking and / or Running and enjoys the outdoor lifestyle.
Alvin burning desire is to finish a day completing his TO DO LIST and something no-one knows about him is…He has never received a WAGE.
