In 2019, our founder, Kerryn Powell, launched her first book .

Kerryn shares, in Chapter 7, that a vision is the ability to contemplate or plan the future using imagination or wisdom. Yet, often we need more than just a vision, we also need courage to make choices and confront situations that require us to step out of our comfort zone. We may have to experience situations previously unknown. We need to be willing to give it a go. There is anticipation of achieving a positive outcome, yet we need to recognise that what we first expected is not necessarily what we will achieve.

As we have experienced in the past months of lockdown, our expectations may need to change, and our path may deviate, even though our vision remains the same.

Do you know the story behind Your Time Matters?

Here is an excerpt from Kerryn’s book.

The Original YTM

When I started YTM it was my vision to create a flexible business to help others make the most of their precious time. I knew how busy life could be and that families were often struggling to keep the balls in the air. I had taught full-time with a young family and a husband who travelled a lot. I had tried managing it all. I had an aging mother who needed support. I needed more flexibility to take her to medical appointments and support her as best I could.

My vision was to create a business that provided opportunity. I wanted to be stimulated and challenged. I wanted to use my diverse skills. I wanted the chance to create something I was proud of. I wanted to produce some independent income, something many women sacrifice for a time and then want to re-achieve.

I am sure many people have had a similar vision. I know of many people who have the desire. Being a mother and wife made full-time work challenging, so I wanted greater flexibility and to be in charge of my own hours. I knew from observing my family members and friends that small business was not for the faint hearted; it requires enormous effort and courage, but I was prepared to give it a go.

Over the years, my business has transformed as I have grown in confidence, redefined my niche and clarified my goals, but my vision has remained unchanged. On numerous occasions I have needed to step out of my comfort zone to make the next move. I have faced moments of hesitation, but I often look back, reflect and, on occasions, marvel at how far I have come and what I have been able to achieve.

My career choices prior to starting YTM provided opportunity to build and develop many skills. I realised that, if I put my mind to it, I always managed to find a way forward. Connecting with other people to keep learning and being part of a much bigger world, and extending myself, has always been the prize.

I registered my business name Your Time Matters in 2010. The original tagline for the business was, ‘Do What You Do Best and Delegate the Rest to Us.’ I helped individuals, business professionals and families manage their ‘to-do’ lists. I knew time consuming daily must-do tasks took their focus away from core needs. As YTM developed, the tagline changed to ‘Finding Solutions for Your Lifestyle and Business.’ Through my extensive network and a resourceful approach, I could – and still can - find a solution for anything. At the very least I know who to ask to find an answer by reaching into all the connected pools of relationships.

Transitioning to Online Business Networking Events

Over the past months of lockdown, YTM has successfully transitioned to the online space and has continued to support, educate and build a community of likeminded business professionals.

Not only have we increased the opportunities to meet up more regularly, but also introduced a variety of sessions on business related topics, and enjoyed several SOCIAL Zoom activities including Trivia, Games night and a mindfulness session where participants benefited from learning more and engaging in Art therapy.

A benefit has also been in providing more access to people near and far to participate in our events as they recognise that business is a by product of strong relationships.

We invite you to check out our coming events and to subscribe or event alerts to keep informed of opportunities that can help you to build relationships, trust and business.
