Do you “Mask-up” when networking?

YTM Business networking events

No, I am not talking about wearing a mask while on Zoom. Imagine that on Mute and in a Mask!!

I am talking about who are you when you show up to a networking event or a client meeting or meeting with referral partners or collaborators?

  • Are you the Passive Listener, not engaging or being curious about others but choosing to absorb and consider what you hear and learn?

  • Are you an Active Listener, choosing to respond to what you hear and be suggestive with an idea?

  • Are you a Speaker, starting a conversation on a subject and seeking views on different ways to solve problems or open opportunities?

  • Are you a Chameleon, adapting how you show up to a meeting with others depending on how you read the tone and the personalities involved?

  • Are you Consistent, meaning there is no difference how you behave in any environment?

  • Are you Interesting rather than Interested, leaving little space for the other party to engage?

Truth is we probably have to be a little of each of these styles depending on the moment.

The message is clear though, be conscious of how you show up so the others in the room remember you for all the right reasons.
